When firefox connect on a ftp server, it'll try to connect as anonymous.
If the server don't allow anonymous and has automatic ban, the first connection is a failure and the countdown start.
If a need to connect a lot of time in the day i will be banned.

I will be a great idea to let the user choose in the preferences not to connect as anonymous by default on FTP server...

Gecko first tries anonymous login, before it will prompt for username and password : that's asked by bug 124561.
