The recommendation system could be abused. We need to keep track of the recommendations within a given time domain in order to detect sudden changes and trigger alarms, where appropriate.

I think this may still be relevant, but :epavlov is the new maintainer of the project, so it's really up to him to say :-)

I don't think we'll ever have resources to work on this, but I would keep this ticket anyway. The impact of recommendations is limited, so It doesn't seem critical. Also, recommendations are built using multiple channels and it is not trivial to abuse all of them.
