That strange Aurora 51 client isn't quieting down. It's now sending pings at the rate of hundreds of thousands per day: https://sql.telemetry.mozilla.org/queries/3085/source#table Take a second look at the pings we're receiving. Maybe if we look at the non-duplicate pings we'll be able to understand something about the population of machines that have and use this client profile.
New report filed, up for review here: https://github.com/mozilla/mozilla-reports/pull/58
After the report is reviewed, I shall write a blogpost summarizing the findings and positing about what we can do next. With it serving as a tl;dr, post to fhr-dev and ask for comments about what (if anything) we can and should do about it.
Report is reviewed and published: http://reports.telemetry.mozilla.org/post/projects/problematic_client_followup.kp Blog post is written and published: http://chuttenblog.wordpress.com/2017/05/02/data-science-is-hard-anomalies-part-2/ fhr-dev email has been sent: http://chuttenblog.wordpress.com/2017/05/02/data-science-is-hard-anomalies-part-2/ ...now we wait and see if anyone has brilliant ideas about what to do.
Discussion at the data team sync meeting today resulted in renewed attention on bug 1342111 as the means for dealing with this. Looking forward to seeing that taken care of.
